Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to question if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
