Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.

An important official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
